The Starting Point

Challenge

The recast EU Drinking Water Directive—Directive (EU) 2020/2184—introduces harmonized hygiene requirements for materials and products that come into contact with drinking water.

Sanitary-product manufacturers must review not only the material grade, but also the complete water-contact system, including material composition, manufacturing residues, surface condition, joining processes, cleaning, traceability and final-product validation.

Customers therefore need manufacturing partners that can support material transition and provide the technical documentation required for product assessment.

Engineering & Manufacturing

YILIN Solution

YILIN supports customers in developing and manufacturing drinking-water-contact components through a structured engineering and quality approach.

01 — Water-Contact Component Review

We identify every component and surface that may come into direct or indirect contact with drinking water.

The review covers:

  • Main water-contact bodies
  • Internal machined components
  • Tubes, connectors, nuts and valve components
  • Welded or assembled water passages
  • Seals, lubricants and other process-related substances
  • Surface treatments applied to water-contact areas

02 — Material Route Evaluation

Depending on the product design, application and customer specification, YILIN can evaluate suitable material routes, including:

  • SUS316L / EN 1.4404 for main water-contact components
  • SUS304, SUS316 or SUS316L for internal machined parts
  • Customer-approved low-lead or lead-free copper-alloy alternatives
  • Materials selected with reference to applicable European positive lists and customer requirements
